What the authorities do?
An accident in a Seveso establishment can have consequences for people and the environment, both within and outside the company. In order to prevent such accidents or mitigate their consequences, the competent authorities work together:
- The federal government is responsible for the protection of the employees and for the preparation and coordination of the emergency plan, in close cooperation with the federal services of the provincial governors.
- The provincial governors are responsible for drawing up the special emergency and intervention plan in accordance with the Seveso Directive.
- The Regions have competence for town and country planning.
